Sexual health

Most people agree that it is important not to rush into sex.  In fact many young people who did start having sex early say they regret it and wish they had waited.

You may have decided not to have sex yet, but if and when you do, you need to know where to go for information and advice so you can stay safe and avoid unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases (STIs).

For FREE and CONFIDENTIAL information and advice about staying safe visit a Family Planning Clinic.   These clinics provide young people, including those under 16, with contraception including pills, condoms, emergency contraception, pregnancy testing and referral for the termination of a pregnancy.  Some clinics hold sessions just for young people.  Whatever contraceptive method you choose however, you should also consider using a condom for protection against STIs.

Family Planning Clinics in Merton are run by Sutton and Merton Primary Care Trust (PCT).  All clinics are walk in clinics that operate on a first come, first served basis without the need for an appointment.  You people are welcome at all of the clinics and there are some sessions specifically for young people (under 19ys).

There is also a 24 hour Sexual Health Helpline 020 8407 3636 offering information and advice (recorded info outside of office hours).
