Setting up home allowance.

Moving into your own first home is a difficult time and there will be lots of essentials you will need to buy. The 16+ team provides all care leavers with a Setting Up Home allowance ( this used to be called leaving care grant) you may be able to access some of your allowance when you move to semi-independent living if the unit does not provide for you the essential items that you need.

Setting up Home Allowance is up to £1200. It is important to recognise that this money does not go very far so it is best that you consider saying as early as possible for items for your flat.

You should also apply for a Community Care Grant from the benefit agency. You will not be expected to pay this money back.
