If you have a problem with a service.

If you have a problem with a service you bought then contact the company and give them a chance to put things right. If you are still not satisfied, put your complaint in writing. You must explain how you would like the problem put right and set a deadline. Write to the Customer Services Manager or Chairman if it is a large company.

If you phone to complain you should always follow up the call with a letter. Keep copies of anything you send and avoid sending original documents such as receipts and guarantees - send copies.

Still not happy?

If all else fails you can consider going to Court to get your money back or for compensation. Your local Citizens Advice Bureau or Consumer Advice Centres can advise you or help you find a solicitor to give you legal advice.

If you plan to go to Court then you should fill in a claim form giving brief details of your claim and take or send it to your local County Court.

The forms and leaflets about this are available from the Court Service website www.courtservice.gov.uk or at Court offices.
