Age 16 yrs - What Rights Do I Have?
When you reach 16 you have more rights to do a variety of things, but don't forget with rights you also have responsibilities.
Some of the things that you are allowed to do at 16 you will require consent from a parent or carer.
With the consent of a parent or carer you can;
At 16.
Apply for your own passport
If you are a male you can join the armed forces
Have a body piercing
Get married
Without parents or carer's consent.
To see your files- you may be charged a small admin charge
Leave school at the end of the summer term- after your GCSE's
Have a National Insurance Number
Have access to your school records
Apply for legal aid
Have a licence for a moped
Buy cigarettes
Have wine, a beer or cider with a meal when eating out.
Work full time (but not in bars or betting shops)
Claim benefits (unless you are Eligble or Relevant)
Have sex with someone your own age or older, who could be of the same or opposite sex, as long as you both agree.
Choose your own doctor and give your own consent for treatment.
Play the lottery or do the pools
