10 things you need to know about Reviews

1. Social services must hold the first Review no later that four weeks after you start being looked after and the second review must be three months after that. From then on reviews are held every six months. (If you have a significant move or change you might have a extra one as we may need to discuss something before the Review was due to be held)

2. Reviews are about you and your future - you should be there so that you can say what you want to happen.

3. If you are not able to attend make sure that you complete a copy of Have Your Say the young peoples consultation form for Reviews.

4. You have a say in who you would like to attend. If there is someone that you do not want to be at your review speak to your social worker or the IRO about this. They will work out the best way to get the views of this person without getting you upset.

5. There may also be other people at your Review. They may be your foster carers, and on some occasions your teacher, your doctor or someone who knows you and your family professionally. Social Services will let you know who will be at your Review and why, before the meeting is arranged.

6. Always try to think about what you would like to say at the meeting and write this down. This could even be something you have achieved and are very proud of.

7.You are allowed to take someone you know and trust along to support you in your reviews, like an older friend or advocate.

8. After Your review you should receive a copy of the decisions that were made at the meeting sometimes decisions made are not carried out and this can be very frustrating for everyone.

9. We are always looking for ways to make your meeting a better experience for you so have a word with the IRO if you have an idea of how we can do this.

10. After each Review you may be asked to fill in a feedback form to let us know how you felt the meeting went. If you are not offered a form and would like to let us know how you felt then ask the IRO for one.
